Advantages and disadvantages of pneumatic techniques

Advantages of pneumatic technology:

1. The adjustment of output force and working speed is very easy. The action speed of the cylinder is generally 50~500mm/s, which is faster than the action speed of the hydraulic and electrical ways.

2. The compressibility of air can be used to store energy and realize centralized gas supply. Energy can be released for a short time to obtain a high speed response during intermittent exercise. Buffering can be implemented. It has strong adaptability to impact load and over load. Under certain conditions, the pneumatic device can be self-maintaining.

3, pneumatic device simple structure, light, easy installation and maintenance. The pressure level is low, so the use is safe.

4, the working medium is inexhaustible air, air itself does not cost money. Exhaust treatment is simple, does not pollute the environment, low cost.

5, high reliability, long service life. The number of effective actions of electrical components is about one million times, while the life of SMC's general solenoid valve is more than 30 million times and the small valve is more than 200 million times.

6, because of the small loss of air flow, compressed air can be centralized supply, long-distance transmission.

7, full pneumatic control with fire, explosion-proof, moisture-proof ability. Compared with hydraulic mode, pneumatic mode can be used in high temperature occasions.

Disadvantages of pneumatic technology:

1. When the cylinder moves at low speed, the low-speed stability of the cylinder is not as good as that of the hydraulic cylinder because the friction force accounts for a larger proportion of the thrust.

2, although in many applications, the output force of the cylinder can meet the working requirements, but its output force is smaller than the hydraulic cylinder.

3, because of the compressibility of the air, the speed of the cylinder is susceptible to the change of the load. The gas-liquid linkage can overcome this defect, and the cylinder speed is faster than the hydraulic pressure.
